Thasos or Thassos is the northernmost Greek island, and 12th largest by area, blooming with its mountainous terrain, rising gradually from coast to centre, towards its highest peak Ypsario( Ipsario) at 1,205 metres. The town of Thasos, an important part of the isle, is also known as Limenas Thasou, "Harbour of Thasos", in an effort to distinguish the town from the island on which it is situated.
