Salona is an ancient city, lying north-east of Split. The ruins of this former settlement are nowadays considered the most remarkable archeological treasure of the country. Presumably, Salona existed before 119 BC. A basilica and numerous sarcophagi are present here, among other vestiges.
Nature lovers shouldn’t leave the city without visiting the Marjan Forest Park, located in the western part of Split. This park is situated at an altitude of more than 170 m. The view from above is absolutely amazing. Moreover, during the summer, this is a great gateway from the crowded ports in Split.
