Faro District (Distrito de Faro in Portuguese) is located in the extreme South of Portugal, with Faro as its capital. The district has 15 cities, besides Faro: Albufeira, Alcoutim, Aljezur, Castro Marim, Lagoa, Lagos, Loule, Monchique, Olhao, Portimao, Sao Bras de Aportel, Silves, Tavira, Vila do Bispo and Vila Real de Santo Antonio. The district has a Subtropical Mediterranean climate, with sunny, hot springs and summers and rather mild autumns and winters, which makes it a popular destination for tourists no matter the season they choose to travel to.

The Portuguese cuisine is different from one area to another, but what you will find in every menu are fresh fish and seafood. The national dish is called “bacalhau” which is a dried and salted codfish. Grilled sardines are also popular, alongside a fish mixture stew called “caldeirada”.
