Port de Sainte-Marie

Port de Sainte-Marie is located in the north of Réunion Island, a French territory in the Indian Ocean. The marina is very close to the capital of Saint Denis and the main airport on the island. About 40 percent of Réunion’s territory is a protected national park designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The landscape is dominated by two massive volcanoes: the inactive Piton des Neiges and Piton de la Fournaise, currently one of the most active volcanoes in the world. Both are accessible to climbers and brought Réunion the reputation of “Hawaii of the southern hemisphere”. Réunion also has three calderas with scenic villages: Cirque de Salazie, Cirque de Cilaos and Cirque de Mafate, accessible only by air. The west coast features long sandy beaches like La Souris Blanche, Plage de la Saline, Plage des Brisants and Plage des Roches Noires. Centuries of immigration have created a cultural mix of Creole, African, Indian, Chinese and French elements.
