Humacao is a Puerto Rican municipality. It is located on the Southeastern side of the country. Humacao is neighboring Las Piedras to the East, Yabucoa to the North, Vieques Passage to the West and Naguabo to the South. The distance between Humacao and the capital city San Juan is approximately 50 km. This proximity and the privileged coastal position turn Humacao into an attractive destination for Puerto Ricans and foreign tourists alike.
The area which is now known as Humacao used to be inhabited by the Taíno indigenes, a native Caribbean population. In the 18th century, due to the exploration and colonization process, Humacao began to be occupied by Spanish settlers.
