In the 17th century, La Trinité was part of a larger establishment that comprised 5 other communes. After it detached itself from this community, the place became to flourish and the name Trinité was given by a local priest called Bolougne as a sign of devotion to the Holy Trinity. La Trinité was an important strategic point for the military forces who built two forts in this commune to defend the land against British attacks.
